When you need a VPS in Singapore

Singapore is the main hosting hub of Southeast Asia. Dozens of submarine cables converge here, large internet exchange points operate, and almost every global cloud and hundreds of small hosts build data centres here. For a project owner based in Europe it's a special location: excellent for some tasks and pointless for others.

Who Singapore is the right choice for

  • An audience in Southeast Asia. Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines are many times closer to a Singapore server than to a European one. A store, app or game server for these countries should be hosted here.
  • Australia and India. Sydney is usually about 90–100 ms away, India even less. It's a compromise if you need one server for the whole region.
  • Services that need an Asian IP: checking search results and ads in different countries, uptime monitoring, working with Asian APIs and platforms.
  • A second node of a global project: the main server in Europe, a copy in Singapore for visitors from Asia.

When it's better to choose another country

From Europe, Singapore is far away: traffic usually travels along submarine cables around India. For a site aimed at European visitors, a corporate VPN for everyday work or a remote desktop, that's a noticeable delay, and a European server will do better. If you need Asia but closer to China, Korea or Japan, compare with VPS in Hong Kong and VPS in Japan: Tokyo and Seoul aren't exactly next door to Singapore either. All Asian locations are collected on the VPS in Asia page.

There's also the reverse case: the project serves Europe, but some customers live in Asia. Then it's wiser to keep the main server close to the majority and add a caching node or CDN for Asian visitors than to move everything to Singapore.

What to look for in a plan

  • Traffic. Backbone links in Asia are more expensive than in Europe, so many Singapore plans come with a traffic cap rather than unlimited traffic. Estimate your volume in advance and check the overage price.
  • Price. Electricity and space are expensive here, and the same configuration usually costs more than in the Netherlands or Germany. Sorting by price in the table above will quickly show where the difference is smallest.
  • Routing. The path to neighbouring countries differs from host to host. If the ping to a specific country matters, check the test IP or looking glass.
  • Rules. Singapore's laws are strict, and hosts react quickly to spam and complaints. Personal data is governed by the local PDPA law.

Payment

Singapore hosts mostly take cards, and a noticeable share also accept cryptocurrency. The "Payment" column in the table shows all methods for each plan. We show prices in your currency and take the data from the hosts' own websites.

FAQ

What ping can I expect to Singapore from Europe?

High: traffic travels a long route via submarine cables, and the exact value depends on your provider's route. For a European audience a server in Europe gives noticeably lower latency.

Is a VPS in Singapore suitable for an audience in Australia?

Yes, Sydney is usually about 90–100 ms away, which is acceptable for websites and APIs. For online games with Australian players, a server in Australia itself is better.

Which is better for Asia: Singapore or Hong Kong?

Singapore is closer to Southeast Asia, India and Australia. Hong Kong is more convenient for China, Taiwan and Northeast Asia.

Why do Singapore VPS plans often have a traffic cap?

Backbone links in Asia are more expensive than in Europe, and hosts pass this on in their plans. Before buying, estimate the volume you need and the overage price.

Is a VPS in Singapore suitable for a corporate network with a team in Europe?

Usually not: because of the high latency, remote access to internal services is slower than through a European server. Singapore makes sense for offices and employees in Southeast Asia.

Which laws apply to a server in Singapore?

The host operates under Singapore law, including the PDPA personal data protection act. Spam and copyright infringement are dealt with quickly there.

How much does VPS in Singapore cost?

From 0.58 $ per month. A quarter of plans are cheaper than 18.89 $, half are cheaper than 42.61 $. In total 2,539 plans from 241 hosts.

Can I pay for VPS in Singapore by bank card or cryptocurrency?

By bank card at 151 hosts of 241 (63%), by cryptocurrency at 87 (36%). Payment methods for each plan are in the Payment column.

How much does VPS in Singapore with 2 GB of RAM cost?

From 1.71 $ per month; with 4 GB from 2.99 $, with 8 GB from 4.92 $.
