Your own server in Amsterdam: how Dutch plans differ from their neighbours

The Netherlands is usually chosen for its network: Amsterdam sits at one of the main crossroads of the European internet, and routes from there to most EU countries are short. Dedicated server plans here are sold by about fifteen hosts of different sizes, and the market differs noticeably from the German and French ones in hardware, traffic and one-off fees.

Amsterdam and AMS-IX

Almost all Dutch configurations in the table are located in Amsterdam. Hundreds of operators interconnect in the city through the AMS-IX internet exchange, so a dedicated server in Amsterdam gets direct peering with European providers rather than transit through third countries. From Moscow to Amsterdam it is usually 40–50 ms, and to London, Frankfurt and Paris a few milliseconds. That makes it a convenient point for a project with users spread across Europe and for a corporate network node that offices in different countries connect to.

What hardware Dutch plans run on

About half of the servers are built on Intel Xeon: from single E3 and E-2100 to dual-processor Xeon Silver with large amounts of memory. AMD EPYC appears in about one plan in four, Ryzen rarely. The upper limit is more modest than in Germany: the largest machines here have dozens of cores, not hundreds, and a terabyte of memory is almost never reached. For typical tasks such as a database cluster, an application server or storage this is enough, but for very heavy computation the choice is wider on the dedicated servers in Germany page.

Disks are evenly split: SSD and NVMe roughly equally, with HDD in a small share of storage plans. If you plan RAID 1 or RAID 10, check the number of drive bays and the controller type: compact single-processor machines often have a cage limited to two to four disks.

Traffic and port

The main feature of the Netherlands is that unmetered traffic is rare here. About one plan in seven lists it; the rest come with a monthly quota. Hosts explain this by the cost of quality transit in Amsterdam and sell bandwidth separately from hardware. The standard port is 1 Gbit/s, about one plan in eight has 100 Mbit/s, and ports of 10 Gbit/s and above appear in the top segment.

Estimate the volume in advance. For a website or API a quota of several terabytes will last a long time, but for distributing files or video or regularly shipping backups between sites, check the price of an extra terabyte. If you need a European site closer to Moscow, compare the traffic terms with dedicated servers in Finland.

Setup, delivery and protection

There is practically no one-off setup fee in Dutch plans, a notable difference from France, Canada and Poland, where most plans charge one. The first month costs the same as the following ones, and you can take a server for a short term for a project or test. Almost half of the configurations are delivered from stock within a few hours; the rest are built in one to three days. Check the IPMI or KVM remote console separately: on inexpensive machines it is sometimes connected on request. DDoS protection is listed for most plans, and Windows Server can be installed almost everywhere.

Rules and payment from Russia

A host in the Netherlands processes customer data under GDPR, and for the server owner this means two things. First, when processing Europeans' data on the server, you become part of the chain under the regulation yourself, and you should sign a data processing agreement (DPA) with the host; most offer a standard template. Second, acceptable use policies are strictly enforced here: a complaint about mailings or network activity from your IP arrives as a ticket with a short response deadline, and silence usually ends with the address being blocked.

Paying from Russia is easier here than in most EU countries. Some hosts with Amsterdam sites accept Russian MIR cards and SBP, and many offer bank transfer by invoice and international cards. Payment methods are listed in the table for each plan.

FAQ

Why is unmetered traffic rare in the Netherlands?

Transit through Amsterdam is expensive, so hosts more often sell traffic in quotas. If you need unmetered traffic, look for plans marked as unmetered or at neighbouring countries.

Is there a setup fee for a dedicated server in the Netherlands?

Practically not: Dutch plans are paid monthly with no one-off payment. That is convenient if you need the server for a short term.

Which to choose for a European project: Amsterdam or Frankfurt?

Their latency across Europe is similar. Setup fees are rarer in Amsterdam, while Frankfurt has a wider choice of powerful hardware and more plans with unmetered traffic.

Can I pay for a server in the Netherlands with a MIR card?

With some hosts you can, and some also accept SBP. The specific payment methods are shown in the "Payment" column for each plan.

Is a server in Amsterdam suitable as a corporate network node?

Yes, good connectivity with Europe and 40–50 ms latency from Moscow are convenient for a private network between offices. Check the traffic quota: constant exchange between branches uses it up quickly.

Which processors are most common in Dutch servers?

About half of the plans run on Intel Xeon of various generations, roughly a quarter on AMD EPYC. Ryzen and Intel Core are rare.

How much does dedicated servers in the Netherlands cost?

From 28.27 $ per month. A quarter of plans are cheaper than 160 $, half are cheaper than 346 $. In total 137 plans from 17 hosts.

Can I pay for dedicated servers in the Netherlands by bank card or cryptocurrency?

By bank card at 10 hosts of 17 (59%), by cryptocurrency at 6 (35%). Payment methods for each plan are in the Payment column.

How much does dedicated servers in the Netherlands with 2 GB of RAM cost?

From 28.27 $ per month; with 4 GB from 28.27 $, with 8 GB from 54.86 $.
