Server rental in France: many cores, lots of memory and an unmetered link

French plans for physical machines lean noticeably towards heavy configurations. The median server here carries 128 GB of memory and several terabytes of fast disks, and the share of AMD EPYC is higher than in most other countries in the catalogue. That is why a dedicated server in France is more often taken not for a small website but for databases, virtualisation and storage, where the resources of a single virtual machine are not enough. If the load is light and you want the same country, compare with the VPS in France selection.

Paris as the location

Of the cities in France, only Paris appears in the table: it hosts the data centres through which the country's main backbones and links to Spain, Italy and North Africa pass. Many plans can also be placed in the same host's other countries, so before ordering check that the French data centre is actually selected in the form. Latency from Moscow to Paris is usually within 45–60 ms, and much lower from Western Europe: for web services and databases this is unnoticeable, but for games with an audience in Russia it is better to look at locations further east.

EPYC, ECC and memory capacity

About four plans in ten run on EPYC of various generations, from the compact 4344P and 4345P to Genoa and Turin with dozens of cores. An even larger share is Xeon: from the old D-1520 and E3-1230 v6 to dual-socket Silver and modern Gold. Almost all server platforms here come with registered ECC memory, and EPYC has up to 12 memory channels per socket, which speeds up analytical queries and the hypervisor.

What to consider when choosing:

  • Single-threaded load. Old Xeon D and E3 are cheap but slow per core; for a PHP site or a game server, Ryzen or EPYC 4000 series is better.
  • Virtualisation and databases. Here core count and memory capacity matter, and EPYC 9004/9005 with hundreds of gigabytes win. A detailed comparison of generations is on the dedicated servers on EPYC page.
  • Disks. About two thirds of the plans come with NVMe, with a median capacity of several terabytes. HDDs remain in inexpensive storage machines.

Unmetered traffic and setup fee

About three quarters of French plans have unmetered traffic, and ports from 3 to 10 Gbit/s appear in almost half of the offers. Note that unmetered traffic is often tied to a guaranteed bandwidth: on inexpensive machines it may be lower than the port speed, and the full link is sold as a separate option.

A one-off setup fee is the rule rather than the exception here: about two thirds of the plans have one. Its amount depends on the contract term, and with payment for 12 or 24 months hosts often waive it entirely. Only a handful of configurations are activated immediately after payment; the usual preparation time is from a few hours to a couple of days, longer for machines with non-standard disks. Network-level DDoS protection is included in almost all plans, and a remote console via IPMI or KVM is available in the panel.

GDPR and CNIL supervision

A server in France falls under GDPR, and the processing of personal data is supervised by CNIL, one of the most active regulators in the EU, which regularly fines companies for poor data protection and opaque cookies. For the server owner this means that if you process data of EU residents, you need a data processing agreement with the host, a clear privacy policy and an incident log. For projects with Russian users: under Russia's 152-FZ, data of Russian citizens must be stored in Russian databases at initial collection, so such a server is usually used for a foreign audience or as a secondary site.

Payment and choosing between neighbours

Server rental in France is paid almost exclusively by international card or PayPal; Russian payment methods appear in only a handful of plans. If you need a similar configuration with a wider choice of budget processors and payment methods, look at dedicated servers in Germany, and for a load with a large DBMS, the selection of servers for databases.

FAQ

Why take a server with 128 GB of memory or more?

Large memory is needed for a hypervisor with several virtual machines, databases that keep indexes in RAM, and caches. For a single website this capacity is usually excessive.

Can I avoid paying the setup fee for a server in France?

Often yes, if you pay for a one- or two-year contract in advance: many hosts waive the setup fee for long terms. With monthly payment it usually remains.

Is unmetered traffic really unlimited?

Volume is not limited, but speed may be capped by a guaranteed bandwidth below the port speed. Check what bandwidth is guaranteed and how much it costs to increase it.

What is CNIL and does it concern the server owner?

CNIL is the French personal data regulator. It concerns you if the server processes data of EU residents: then GDPR requirements for storage, protection and breach notification apply.

Is EPYC 4000 series a good substitute for Ryzen?

Yes, EPYC 4004 and 4005 are built on the same architecture as desktop Ryzen, but with ECC support and server platforms. For single-threaded tasks they are close to Ryzen in speed.

How long until a server in France is ready?

Most often from a few hours to two days: instant delivery is rare here. Configurations with extra disks and network cards take longer to prepare.

How much does dedicated servers in France cost?

From 21.28 $ per month. A quarter of plans are cheaper than 145 $, half are cheaper than 275 $. In total 183 plans from 9 hosts.

Can I pay for dedicated servers in France by bank card or cryptocurrency?

By bank card at 7 hosts of 9 (78%), by cryptocurrency at 2 (22%). Payment methods for each plan are in the Payment column.

How much does dedicated servers in France with 2 GB of RAM cost?

From 21.28 $ per month; with 4 GB from 21.28 $, with 8 GB from 21.28 $.
